Martin Woodcock turned a hobby – albeit a passionate one – into a profession in 1974. Shortly afterwards, his first illustrated field guide –The Birds of South-east Asia – was published by Collins. Since then, he has illustrated many other ornithological guidebooks and family monographs, and painted virtually all the colour plates for the seven-volume definitive work The Birds of Africa. |

Living in north Norfolk has latterly led to wider landscapes, seas and skies in his paintings, though inspiration also derives from trips further afield. Oil and watercolour are the preferred media, and the subjects range from pure landscape to detailed ornithological portraits in oil on panel. |
